Camargue organic red rice is a wholegrain, slender-grained rice with an outstanding nutty flavour, a naturally al dente texture when cooked and an appealingly red-hued colour.
Packed with essential fibres and antioxidants, it is the perfect addition to braises, vegetables and salads.
One of the more well-known of the red rice recipes is Yotam Ottolenghi’s Red Rice and Quinoa Salad with Pistachios, originally printed in ‘The Cookbook’ (available in selected The Essential Ingredient stores) and reprinted here in The Guardian. the flavour and texture of the rice both shining
This rice is grown in the region of The Camargue, southern France, in a unique marshland area located south of Arles, between the temperate Mediterranean Sea and the two arms of the verdant Rhône River delta, where rice has been growing since the 16th century.
The high natural salt content in the region’s soil has always made growing most crops a challenge, but because rice is able to withstand higher levels of salinity, it proved well-suited to the area.
