About the class

Interested in Japanese food but don’t quite know where to start? This is the class for you! Let’s unravel the mysteries of the basic Japanese pantry together. We’ll explore Miso, Mirin, Soy, Dashi, Shichimi Togarashi, Rice Wine Vinegar, Sake, Furikake and more. If you understand the foundations of a cuisine it becomes Easy Japanese quite quickly.

The Japanese pantry is all about showcasing simple ingredients but adding enormous depth of flavour with brewed, fermented, dried and aged pantry staples. These ingredients take generations to perfect and time to produce, but the payoff is instant deliciousness. Join us in exploring 3 comforting dishes that showcase a range of techniques, flavours and textures.

To Do List:

    • Wear closed toe shoes (we love your toes where they are),
    • Pull long hair back off your face (“waiter, there’s a hair in my soup”),
    • Inform us of any dietary requirements prior to purchasing your ticket/s. Please also be aware that some requirements and/or allergies cannot be catered to – depending on the class.
    • There are often leftovers at the end of each class so we ask that you bring Tupperware from home to put them in, as we will no longer be handing out plastic containers in our bid to save the environment.
