Interested in Japanese food but don’t quite know where to start? This is the class for you! Let’s unravel the mysteries of the basic Japanese pantry together. We’ll explore Miso, Mirin, Soy, Dashi, Shichimi Togarashi, Rice Wine Vinegar, Sake, Furikake and more. If you understand the foundations of a cuisine it becomes Easy Japanese quite quickly.
The Japanese pantry is all about showcasing simple ingredients but adding enormous depth of flavour with brewed, fermented, dried and aged pantry staples. These ingredients take generations to perfect and time to produce, but the payoff is instant deliciousness. Join us in exploring 3 comforting dishes that showcase a range of techniques, flavours and textures.
Tonjiru – Pork Belly Soup with Daikon, Carrot, Shitake and Miso
Oyakodon – Chicken and Egg Rice, Kewpie Mayo, Shichimi Togarashi
Shime Saba – Pickled Mackerel with Sesame, Warm Rice, Spring Onion and Ume
