We are so pleased to welcome Anna Polyviou back to Essential Ingredient Newcastle. On Saturday 22nd May Anna is hosting a cooking class where she’ll teach you how to create a range of iconic Greek Cypriot dishes. She’s on her way to Newcastle, so put on your aprons, dust off your whisks and get cooking in Anna’s Greek Fest!

Anna is typically known for creating over-the-top desserts, appearances on Australia’s Masterchef and her shocking punky pink locks. Now Anna is visiting The Essential Ingredient Newcastle to show us a different side of her culinary life.

“During COVID I started making home-cooking videos and the response was huge,” Anna says. “People started asking me to teach them how to make keftedes, spanakopita, pita bread and loukoumades. So I designed Anna’s Greek Fest class to include each of these dishes.”

Join Anna for a three-hour cooking class with both hands-on and demonstrative elements. In this class Anna will teach each guest how to make dishes inspired by her Greek Cypriot heritage.

To end the class, we’ll sit down and dine on each of the dishes we’ve created over a glass of wine (or two).

Spinach, Fetta, Filo

This is one of the Greek kitchen’s most famous exports, filo pastry filled with a simple spinach, green herb and fetta filling. Anna will show each guest how to make filo pastry by stretching it out and flipping it dramatically on a tablecloth.


Greek style meatballs, 2 ingredients pita bread

Greek-style meatballs served with tzatziki (yoghurt, cucumber, garlic and herbs), served with two-ingredient pita bread. “You’ll be blown away with how easy these are to make,” says Anna.


Honey Puff Donuts, Candied Pop-Corn, Vanilla Caramel

Anna will teach guests the old-school method of frying loukoumades. Her recipe has a contemporary touch, with sides of candied popcorn and vanilla caramel dipping sauce.

Anna is all about encouraging people to have a go in the kitchen and is passionate about nurturing the talent of others.
