Where do we eat, drink and play around Orange?
It’s a question we get asked A LOT. And because our annual FOOD Week festival starts today (yay!), we thought what a good time to compile a list of some of our faves. We live in such a beautiful part of the world. So, let’s embrace it and support those small local businesses that make Orange such an awesome place to live!
So lets start off with an absolute gem. An Orange dining institution…
I mean the place has a total of SIXTEEN Chef Hats! If you haven’t been, run don’t walk. Order the souffle (or one of them, there is a souffle menu!) Then sit back with a glass of local wine and enjoy. You can thank us later.

Feel like an afternoon stroll through an orchard picking apples? While you’re there, pop into the farm shop and stock up on all the fresh produce you can carry.

HAWKES GENERAL STORE
Another Orange institution from the same family of Lolli Redini. The Hawke family have been running this place for over 40 years and it’s not surprising why. It’s our go to place whenever we need a gift, or just a wonder (and a splurge!) They make pretty darn good coffee too. You can find one of us up there most mornings on a coffee run!
46 Sale St Orange I hawkesgeneralstore.com.au
A Sunday morning brunch staple for Team Essential. The smashed avocado is to die for. Hot tip. Add bacon (why not?) and a hash brown. Another cracker is the corn fritters… And the green juice… And the coffee. Need we say more?
151 Byng St Orange I groundstone.com.au
Have a hankering for some really good German smallgoods? Think salami, pate, terrines (the pork!), sausages and their twiggys are a must have! It’s a weekend staple for us. The Orange Arcade I 02 6361 0051
THE WHITE PLACE
If there was a shop in Orange that i would like EVERYTHING from, this is it. Oh, and if you need a place to stay, yep they have that covered too with their own dream house airbnb.
100 Byng St, Orange I thewhiteplace.com.au
Feel like exploring? The historic villages of the Blayney shire have some real gems for those who like the peace and quiet. While you’re there stop by Angullong wines for a bottle (or a case) of their Pinot Grigio. It’s a stunner.

And finally, where do the misters of Essential shop? Hartfords.

And not forgetting us, THE ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT. We’re open Mon – Sat during FOOD Week.
Enjoy the festival. See you there x
