Opened in 2003 and neatly settled in the historic, leafy and renowned foodie precinct of Kingston, The Essential Ingredient Canberra is noted for its international and local cookbooks, high quality cookware and wide range of quality food products.

In 2009, the retail store was expanded and relocated within Kingston to 25 Jardine Street, with the addition of a specialty cheese service.
